Lopez Lays an Egg

I watched the premier of George Lopez' HBO Special "Tall, Dark, and Chicano" last night. It was a live performance in San Antonio, in front of 14,000.

I've admired George's standup work for years. He's been a frequent visitor to the DFW area for gigs at the local comedy clubs, and always appeared on the local morning radio shows. I've never watched his sitcom TV show - looked too stupid.

This performance shocked me. Over 80 minutes of standup, he was rarely funny, dropped multiple F*Bombs and quite a few MF*Bombs. His sarcastic protrayal of white people is part of his normal schtick, so that wasn't a surprise. What was surprising was him taking so much time out of his performance to insult and cut down Republicans. His main message was that since Republicans had voted against Sotomayor, and were against illegal immigration, they had forever lost the Latino vote. He went out of his way to whip up anti-Republican fervor in the crowd, which HBO gave ample airplay.

Hey George - you're a jerk.
