This web site, run by the Dep. of the Treasury and the Dep. of Housing and Urban Development, has been put forth by Obama the Immaculate in speeches as the place to go if you are in trouble with your mortgate and want the government to help you out. Once there, you are asked to enter information about your loan, if it's a Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac loan, and then asked to submit this information in order to determine if you are eligible for aid. Sounds OK .....
Problem is, your information does not go to a government agency for evaluation. It is sent to a bunch of private law firms around the country. These firms will then solicit you by phone and email, pushing to get you to sign up for their services in trying to get your mortgage company to renegotiate your mortgage. These services are not free - the figures I heard from two people complaining about this was $2000 from one firm, and $2700 from another. One of the complaintants stated that the firm that he signed up with took his money, and delivered absolutely nothing.
I don't see anythig on this site that states what will happen to your information. I don't see any indication at all that it will be delivered to a private company without your knowledge or approval. I don't see anything about having to pay for services this site happily touts.
What I do see, and find really funny is the message on the welcome page of the web site, cautioning users to "Beware of mortgage rescue scams ... help is free!!"
This ought to be criminal, and may very well be. From what we've seen, legality isn't a road block for this administration. I don't know for certain, but it would be VERY interesting to see how many of these law firms made political or campaign contributions, and to whom those contributions went.
This is just too blatant to stay under cover. Someone is going to ask the administration about it - I can't wait to hear the spin, deception, and outright lies they will spew forth covering their asses. Somehow they'll blame the Bush administration for it .....
If you doubt me, go take a look at the site (but I caution you - this is a scam by the government, don't send them any information!!"

And let's see, will this be a question brought up at a White House press conference? And what answer would the wonderful, bright, articulate press secretary come up with -- uh, uh, ah, uh, that -- that's not what we're talking here today, I'll have to get back to you.
Another Obama administration job filled by someone with no qualifications.
