Wind Is Going To Save The Post Office?

This is unbelievable.  US Senator Tom Carper (D-DE) on the floor of the Senate discussing how he thinks wind energy could save the United States Post Office.

The idiocy of this is amazing.  The fact that a US Senator is spewing out this crap with a straight face is an amazing indictment of the left's addiction to green this and green that - in spite of all the empirical evidence to the contrary.

DHS Becomes Obama's Eco-Nazis

DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano has apparently decided the Global War of Terror has been won, and we are completely safe. I say apparently, because the DHS is now shifting focus to become Obama's Eco-Nazi minority protector squad. Seriously ... take a look at this piece in The New American, detailing DHS's own releases regarding its new direction:

http://thenewamerican.com/usnews/politics/11505-dhs-introduces-green-police

If you really needed one more piece of evidence to convince you that the Department of Homeland Security is a huge, useless, out of control mess, this would be it.

Somehow, I don't think this is what Congress had in mind when it forced President Bush to create DHS.

Update - The Baltimore Sun reported that DHS agents raided a Baltimore fleamarket on April 23rd.  After a 2 1/2 year investigation, agents swooped in a rounded the bad guys up.  Were these terrorists, Islamic extremists, drug cartel members?  No ... they were local vendors who sold counterfiet handbags and DVDs.

OK, those selling fake junk from China ought to be busted, but by Homeland Security?  Is that what our billions upon billions of tax dollars funding DHS are being used for?

If you want to know why, remember that this is Obama's DHS.  Hollywood, the majority of whom are diehard liberals, feel that they are losing billions of dollars to Chinese knockoffs.  How better than to make sure your Hollywood kook base is in line than to use DHS make a show of going after those who are stealing from the mouths of Hollywood?

I Hope The Eco-Nazis Don't Find Out About This

I honestly see the Obama Administration coming out and championing this as a solution to global warming, climate change, alternative energy, save the whales, save the polar bears, save the ... whatever.

I mean, wouldn't this be a perfect solution for the Missus O and her campaign to take over lunch menus? Kids don't like pink slime, but they'd love crap burgers! I can see them being branded Big O Macs. Delicious, and it will save the planet!

The Japanese company doing this research should expect to receive billions of dollars from Obama for the promise of this green (er, maybe brown) technology.

They Just Couldn't Help Themselves

The left wing goobers over at the LA Times can't report a single thing without trying to put a liberal slant on it ...

In a report on the formation of a huge iceberg in Antarctica, they make the follwing statements:

"The formation of an iceberg is called calving, and although it's a fairly regular event - probably unrelated to global warming - scientists are awaiting this one with considerable anticipation. Icebergs this big calve off only about once every 10 years."

They take two scientific facts - the formation of an iceberg - icebergs this size are born about every 10 years - and manages to intertwine a reference to global warming.

Global warming, the man-made variety that is supposedly ending our planet, has reportedly been around for how many years? A couple of decades? I can say with a pretty large amount of certainty that there were large icebergs formed before 1990 ...

The new 'berg is a massive amount of ice about to break off the Pine Island Glacier, on the western edge of Antarctica. When it finally breaks free, it will measure about 308 square miles in surface area.

The Pine Island Glacier has been producing large 'bergs for much longer than man has been on Earth. And yet, somehow, these weasels find a way to interject a political agenda into a simple factual report.

Obama's Investment in Green Jobs - Really Paying Off

Fremont, CA based Solyndra, a manufacturer of solar panels, was touted by President Obama last year as a prime example of how investment in green technology was going to generate untold gazillions of jobs. Obama and other politicos visited the company for photo ops and speeches.

Solyndra closed its doors yesterday, filing for Chapter 11. 1100 people will lose their jobs. The 1000 additional jobs that Obama had announced that the company was going to add never materialized. A half billion dollars of Federal money, our tax dollars, was loaned to the company by the Obama Administration. That money was spent by the company, and is gone - completely wasted.

Solyndra follows two other solar panel manufacturers into bankruptcy in the past month. Spectrawatt, of NY, filed for Chapter 11 on Aug. 19. Evergreen, of MA, filed 4 days earlier.

All three companies cited as reasons for failure being their inability to compete with Chinese companies producing the same products for 40% cheaper.

Renewable energy products and companies will become important in our society when the technology becomes effificient enough and inexpensive enough for mass deployment - and when they can produce enough energy to justify the expense. The Federal Government cannot speed this up through artificial regulation or by pouring billions of our tax dollars into companies that are doomed to failure. Free enterprise will be the answer.

Update - the FBI raided Solyndra's HQ on 9/8, executing mulitple search warrants. What they were looking for wasn't released. I wouldn't be surprised if we find out that the owners made off with a bunch of our money.

There is also discussion about relationships between Obama campaign operatives and company executives, and over 20 visits by those company executives to the White House.

Never fear, Obamaites ... Your henchman Holder will ride to the rescue and squash any real investigation.

Update II - Emails and other evidence has come to light indicating that Obama Administration officials knew of financial problems at the company prior to issuing the half billion dollar loan.

How Ecologically Friendly Are Electric Cars?

As I sat in traffic over the weekend, wondering why I wasn't seeing thousands of Obama Motors' Dolts surrounding my evil fossil fuel burning full sized FORD F-150, this thought came wandering by.

What happens to the batteries that will be put in all of these electric cars?

So, a little research;

The Volt (Dolt) carries a 435lb lithium ion battery.

The battery, with a full charge, is projected to be good for 40 miles worth of travel before it must be recharged.

The battery must be recharged at a power station. Unlike a hybrid, the car does not charge itself while in motion.

Publicly accessible power stations are being started for free, to set the hook. Later, they will require a pre-paid card to purchase charging time. I have seen estimates that these charges will be in the neighborhood of $100 a month.

GM projects the life of the battery to be 10 years, IF the vehicle is located in a moderate climate. Extreme heat or cold are very likely to shorten the life.

GM's warranty on the battery is 8 years, or 100,000 miles. (Trust me, with only a 40 mile range on a full charge, 8 years is going to happen a lot sooner than 100K miles!)

GM projects that after 8 years, the battery will only be able to hold 80% of the charge it will hold when new. That means that after 8 years, if everything is working perfectly, the range on the Dolt will be down to 32 miles.

GM has not published a replacement cost for the battery. Industry analysts have estimated it will cost around 10 thousand dollars to buy a new battery.

What happenes to the old batteries? 435 pounds of lithium battery is a lot of hazardous waste! Due to the cheapness of lithium, there is no profitable market for recycling the material. There is only one large scale recycling company for this material in the entire world! Small scale recyling (cell phone batteries, etc.) is subsidized by the government because there is no profit in it. Industry analysts are predicting it will be 30 years before large scale lithium recycling infrastructure will be available to take care of all the dead batteries that will be discarded - and then ONLY if the price of new, raw lithium experiences a large increase. So, where is all that toxic waste going to go?

When you couple all of this with the fact that the taxpayer is subsidizing approximately 10,000 dollars of the cost of every Dolt sold, you really have to ask yourself why this piece of shit is being pushed so hard. The reason - Obama's name is on it.

How Economically Friendly Are Electric Cars?

According to Mr. Obama, emerging green technologies are the key to America's economic future. Bazillions of new jobs are going to be created in the green sector. He states it as fact, one that we can bank on.

Green Vehicles, a startup company located in Salinas CA, was touted as one of these wonder companies, due to create 70 jobs and contribute $700,000 in taxes per year to the local economy, while building Obama's perfect vision of an electric car.

Green Vehicles was given $540,000 in startup money by the city.

Green Vehicles shut its doors unexpectedly, with the owner sending out an email to make the announcement. All of the money is apparently gone, in spite of its owners statement over a year ago that they had vehicles ready for sale and delivery.

Wow, isn't that special?

My personal opinion is that any company that buillds something this ugly deserves to go belly up!

The CFL Scam

No, I'm not talking about the Canadian Football League ...

Compact Flourescent Bulbs. These are the light bulbs that your government, pushed by eco-nazis, is forcing you to use instead of good old fashioned light bulbs.

If things keep progressing as they are, in a couple of years it will be illegal for you to own or use a normal light bulb. It will be illegal for manufacturers to make normal light bulbs. Indeed, many manufacturers have stopped making them, and what is on the shelves and in warehouses now is it. Once they are gone, you will be forced to buy CFLs.

The selling points the left is using to force these things on us are:

1) CFLs use considerably less electricity to operate than incandescent bulbs.

2) CFLs last much longer than incandescent bulbs.

Sounds pretty good, doesn't it? Who can argue that those two benefits would be good?

Well, here is the reality of CFLs:

1) CFLs do use less electricity when compared one to one with incandescent bulbs. How much less - well that is open to interpretation.

2) CFLs generate much less light per bulb than normal bulbs. For instance, if you use a 60 watt incandescent bulb, and switch to a CFL bulb, you will get 50% less light. Now, that is not a scientific number derived by testing and published by the government or CFL manufacturers, it is real world experience from my Mark One Eyeball in my living room.

3) CFLs last a fraction of the time an incandescent bulb does. Again, firsthand experience is a whole lot more telling that the lab numbers. I have external floodlights on my house. I had normal bulbs that lasted 10 years in one of these fixtures. I replaced one that burned out with a CFL. Then I replaced it again about 6 months later. Then I replaced it again about 5 months later. Where an old style bulb lasted 10 years, I'm on my third CFL bulb in about a year. (And I use factory brand name bulbs - not off brand) (BTW, related to 2) above - I was using 75 watt rated incandescent floods. I had to replace them with 120 watt CFLs to get the same amount of illumination.)

4) You can not throw away a CFL (legally). They are poisonous, and considered hazardous waste. If you drop and break one on your floor, you are supposed to call a hazmat team to clean it up. I am not kidding!

So, you have to pay more for the CFL bulbs initially. You may have to buy more of them, if you are forced to add light fixtures to get the same amount of illuminiation you are used to. You will have to buy them much more frequently due to failure. You are supposed to pay to have them recycled, and face a stiff fine if you are caught not disposing of them properly. If you drop one, you are supposed to pay for a hazardous materials handling firm to come out and clean it up.

Every stinking one of these points is geared towards making you pay more, either to the government, manufacturers, or cleaners.

The fact that these things contain mercury and are hazardous to the environment immediately cancels out any 'green' benefits.

So, why are they forcing this on us?

Like so many other things the government does, if you want to know the real reason, follow the money:

Manufacturers, like GE, make tons more money on CFLs. GE is in bed with Obama and the far left part of our government. GE spends millions in political donations to make sure the politicians they buy and pay for help their business. So ... politicians force us to give more of our money to GE (and the other companies that support those politicians).

Hydrogen Car In Your Future? Consider This

Hydrogen powered cars are one of the exciting new oil-free technologies that are being explored right now. Let me say up front that even though I do not consider oil to be evil, it is clear that alternative fuels need to be developed over the coming years. There are billions and billions of barrels of oil still in the ground (more than we've already pulled out is still down there), but eventually it will get too expensive to get to. Clean power will also help our environment considerably.

I know ... those of you who have read this blog for a while may be shocked at those statements, but I truly believe them.

Hydrogen is a gas. It burns clean. It is plentiful, since it is one of the elements that make up water. Many of you will have seen images of cute little cars sporting 'hydrogen powered' decals on them. Like this:

The reality of hydrogen powered vehicles for public use may be more along the lines of this - something big, very well protected, not vulnerable to normal traffic fenderbenders:

Hydrogen is extremely flamable, and very easy to ignite. I have a difficult time seeing a future of small, cute hydrogen powered vehicles filling the highways. They will be involved in collisions. They will be split open, because small cars just don't have much protection around the propulsion system, not matter what the fuel is. What in the world is going to keep the hydrogen fuel cell from cooking off and incinerating everyone within a hundred yards? Drive a huge armored vehicle? That's the only way I'm getting into a hydrogen powered vehicle.

To all you eco-nazis who feel I am being a paranoid tool of big oil, I give you this as a shining example of a hydrogen vehicle's encounter with a spark .... the Hindenburg.

Obama's New Energy Nazis

The next Obama outrage on our horizon ... Cap and Trade.

I'm not going to try and dissect this direct attack on our country, based upon the lie of man-made global warming. The attack is simply so massive that I can't do it justice to try and summarize it. The Cap and Trade bill has already passed the House, and Obama is likely to try and ram it through the Senate before the November elections.

The American Thinker has a great article on this impending disaster. The average American has absolutely no idea what lurks inside this piece of legislation. Please read this, and understand that it only addresses a small part of Cap and Trade - the horrors go way beyond this small piece, as objectionable as it is.

Meet DOE Secretary Steven Chu. If Cap and Trade passes the Senate, he will become the second most powerful man in the United States, surpassed only by his master Obama. Chu, and his minions, will have the power to enter your home and force you to spend large amounts of money to meet their environmental regulations. They will be able to prevent you from selling your home. You will be forced to 'register' your home with the Federal government, in much the same way you are forced to have your car inspected every year. If your home doesn't measure up, you will have to pay to 'correct' it.

Good God, we've got to get these socialists out of office ...

Thank God Algore Warned Us About This

God Bless Algore. I'm super serial .....

The Nobel Peace Prize winner singlehandedly saved my home town last week when we received record snowfall. Normally we get one snow event a year, with maybe 1/2 an inch on the ground. Last week's snow event, our third of the year so far, dropped 12 1/2 inches in a 24 hour period. This broke the all time one day record by a full 5 inches.

The same storm dumped snow all the way across the southern and middle states of the country. It comes right on the heels of twin storms that smashed the mid-Atlantic states with record snowfall.

If Algore hadn't warned us, many people might have been killed. Oh ... wait a minute ... Algore is actually preaching about global WARMING, isn't he?

I am amazed at the eco-nazis' reaction to this winter's events. They are coming out in droves, led by the NY Times, stating (somehow with straight faces) that global warming is actually causing the increased snowstorms and colder temperatures. How stupid do these idiots think we are?

Prof. Phil Jones, the British idiot whose emails were hacked and blatantly showed the world how he and his crew were doctoring their data, stated publicly in an interview earlier this week that global temperatures had NOT increased in any amount over the past 15 years. He also conceded that global temperatures during Medievil times were probably higher than they are now. Despite this, later in the interview he was still defending his 'work' and the Warmer movement, even though he confessed to having difficulty keeping track of his own data.

It amazes me that these are the same dunderheads who 20 years ago were screaming about the impending ice age.

By the way ... If you want a good laugh, or just feel like getting really pissed off at this lunatic, go visit his blog. I wonder who writes it for him, since he is so busy traveling the world making millions of dollars giving speeches?

If you do happen to go there, take notice of the title photo of Algore in his office. There is no wonder why he is so mixed up - no one could find anything in that pile of crap. Man-Bear-Pig is hiding under there somewhere ....

Another Green Scam

You've all seen Oreo Cakesters at the grocery, right? These are soft, cake like Oreos that will make your butt expand at the speed of light. They come in four flavors.

In yesterday's grocery run, I picked up a couple of boxes. I noticed they were different in size. Then I noticed green areas printed on the smaller box. "New eco-improved box" it claims. The green areas on the box are strategically placed so that you cannot look at the box at any angle without seeing green.

The box is eco-friendly because it is slightly smaller. OK, a little less cardboard, a little less raw material used, a little less trash to be discarded. I'll agree with that.

If Nabisco's concern was to reduce trash, then that is enough of a goal and reward to justify the change.

If Nabisco's concern was lowering their costs, mission accomplished.

Either of those reasons by themselves should be enough of a reason for the company to have done this, and provided adequate ROI. But no ... they have to trumpet their achievement in bright green on the box, catching the consumer's eye, saying "buy me, I'm green!".

I'm sorry, but in MY OPINION, Nabisco was far more concerned with trying to generate a competitive advantage in sales vs. saving the planet. Now, in a capitalist society, there is nothing at all wrong with that. But, in Obama's USSA, someone at Nabisco should be going to jail over this.

Another Example of the Global Warming/Eco-Friendly/Green Scam

I was walking down the aisle in my local Target store yesterday. Each of these stores have endcaps that have 'Clearance' signs on them, with items at reduced prices. I happened to see some legal pads on one of these Clearance racks.

I use quite a few legal pads in my work, so the opportunity to pick up some at cheaper than retail sounded good, so I took a look. Upon closer inspection, these three pad packs were labeled as 100% recycled material. 'Green' ... 'Buy these and save a tree' ... Well, ok ....

The clearance price on this three pad pack was three time more expensive than a normally priced 5 pack of standard legal pads. WTF?

Just another example of the green scam. Put 'recycled', 'eco-friendly', 'save the planet', or 'green' on anything and you can charge 2 to 3 times as much as a product that doesn't carry those magic words. This is decades old marketing at its best - take advantage of dim-witted consumers and their gullability to make a bunch of money.

This is what Algore does best - talk up a line of B.S. about climate change, and cash in big by investing in technologies/companies that he says are 'saving the planet'.

What a scam .....

Obama Cuts Funding for Hydrogen Powered Cars

Despite all the hype from Obama's regime about having to get away from reliance on that nasty oil, and the need for alternatively fueled vehicles, Obama's 2010 budget cuts funding for hydrogen fueled cars.

I didn't know this, but GM has had hundreds of hydrogen powered cars running for years now in tests, rolling up millions of miles. These miles have been on the street, by individuals - not on a test track. Other car companies have had similar efforts ongoing. The technology apparently works. For those of you in the dark on this, it's a car that runs on water ....

Wow ... a car that runs on water, and who's only byproduct is oxygen released into the air. Sounds like the perfect green method of transportation. It is very close to being production ready. The Bush Administration funneled millions of dollars into helping GM and others developing the technology.

Now, Obama has pulled all of the funding out of his budget, apparently with no explanation. Some folks at GM, and a few active eco-orgs have picked up on this, but the mainstream media and the Obama regime has been silent on it.

Why pull funding? I have no idea, but as with almost everything else this administration is doing, follow the money if you want to find out why ....
Note: The car pictured above is the Honda FCX Clarity, a current functioning hydrogen vehicle.

Reframing the Global Eco-Scam

ecoAmerica, a 'non-profit' environmental marketing firm in Washington, has been conducting research and focus groups for the past couple of years. The goal - to reframe the global warming message into something that is easier to attract people.

Now, first .... Global warming is an absolute scientific fact, according to the left. No argument is allowed, no dissension is accepted. If that is so, then why does a environmental marketing firm exist?

ecoAmerica has decided that key phrases need to be substituted when talking about global warming. The American public has grown weary of hearing 'global warming', and equates the phrase with left wing eco-terrorists, treehuggers, fruits, and flakes. Well, duh ....

Out: global warming
In: our deteriorating atmosphere

Out: carbon dioxide
In: moving away from dirty fuels of the past

Out: cap and trade
In: cap and cash back
In: pollution reduction fund

Out: energy efficiency
In: saving money for a more propserous future

Out: the environment
In: the air we breathe, the water our children drink

Apparently, a slick marketing campaign is needed to rescue this 'absolute science' in the public's eye.

eco-America held briefings on their findings for environmental groups and the Obama administration this past week. The presentation, which was not supposed to be made public, was leaked to the press, either by accident or by someone with a conscience.

I've got my own word exchange I feel is more appropriate:

Out: global warming
In: scam

Out: climate change
In: natural warming and cooling cycle of the earth's environment

California to Ban Black Cars

The Fruits, Flakes, and Nuts are at it again ....

The California Air Resource Board (CARB) is a bunch of Eco-Nazis who have absolute control over anything and everything that even remotely can be tied to air quality in California. If they say something can't be sold in California because it affects air quality, it doesn't get sold.

Their latest efforts involve trying to ban the sale of black painted cars. Yes, black painted cars ....

Apparently, they believe that because black paint doesn't reflect sun as much as light colors, that causes the car's air conditioner to work harder, which in turn affects gas mileage, which in turn affects air pollution. Now, granted, there is some logic in that. However, the amount is so miniscule that it can't really make a difference.

California is broke. In fact, it is so far broke that if it were a private company, it would be bankrupt and dissolved by now. The far left lunatics have such a hold on the state that it may never recover. From spending enormous amounts of money supporting illegal immigrants, to bending over backwards for Eco-Nazis, to establishing safe havens for freaks and criminals (the cesspool that San Francisco has become), to making ridiculous rules that make it almost impossible to conduct business in the state, to taxing its legal citizens to the limits of their bank accounts, California seems to be intent on imploding on itself. with all the problems they've got, they can find the time and money to waste on banning black cars?

Fight back Californians! Go out and buy nothing but black cars between now and 2011, when this legislation is likely to be enacted ......

Dems Block Wind/Solar Energy Projects In Their Area

Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) has come out against a solar power collector project that is planned to be built in the Mojave Desert.

Comon sense would seem to say that the desert would be a great place to put solar panels - plenty of sun, no interference with local population, minimal weather issues. However, the same environmental kooks that are going nuts because we aren't using enough renewable energy sources, want to block the project because it would harm the aestetics of the desert, and because it would have an impact on a type of tortise.

"It would destroy the entire Mojave Desert ecosystem." - David Myers, executive director of The Wildlands Conservancy.

"This is unacceptable. I urge you to direct the BLM to suspend any further consideration of leases to develop former railroad lands for renewable energy or for any other purpose." - Dianne Feinstein to Interior Secretary Ken Salazar.

"If we cannot put solar power plants in the Mojave desert, I don't know where the hell we can put it." - CA Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger

Thank you Governor, I don't know how more clearly the issue can be stated. If you can't put solar panels in uninhabited desert areas, just where in the hell are you supposed to put them? Environmentalist wackos are going to object to solar collectors or wind farms no matter where they are put. Seems that renewable energy is great, as long as it's in someone else's back yard.

What hypocrits .....

Does anyone remember the proposal to place a wind farm offshore off Nantucket, one that would provide 75% of electricity needed for Cape Cod and it's islands? You remember who killed it, and why? Ted Kennedy (D-MA) killed it before it was started, because he didn't want to have wind turbines anywhere near his favorite sailing area.

A Local Example of the Global Warming/Eco Friendly/Green Scam

I frequently shop Half Price Books. A great place to get cheap reading material, and sometimes a real gem of a book.

Anyone who patronizes this company knows how 'Eco Friendly' the store protrays itself. Recyle, reuse, green this, green that ... they even sell green colored tote bags that have the tag line "it's good to b(eco)me carried away", with a web site "becomegreen.info". The premise is for you to purchase these bags and use them instead of using plastic throw away bags (which they provide free of charge).

I was in one of their local stores yesterday, browsing the Sci-Fi section. I noticed one of the workers wheeling out a couple of large trash cans full of books from the buying area. He took them out of the store, wheeled them across the parking lot, and proceeded to throw the contents into a normal trash dumpster. Curious, I asked him what he was doing. His explanation was that books they can't sell they throw away. Don't you recycle them? No, there is no profit in going to the trouble of recycling, the dumpster is just easier.

Amazing ... an eco-friendly store, trying to make money off its customers on the premise of being eco-friendly, and they can't be troubled to recycle one of the easiest items there is to recycle? How many tons of paper do each of these stores deposit into landfills each year, instead of saving trees by recycling?

A great example of the green hoaxing of America and the rest of the world. Green is apparently great, but only if there is profit in it.
