Rangers Correct Opening Day Gaffe

The Ballpark in Arlington is home to the Texas Rangers baseball team. A beautiful stadium, it is a peasure to see a ballgame there.

The outfield wall has become home to a number of sponsor signs, as it has in many stadiums. One of the Rangers' sponsors this month is 'The Dump', a furniture liquidation store. Someone in the Rangers' organization, either by chance or on purpose, located 'The Dump' signage on the wall right in front of the Rangers' bullpen. Now, with the horrid performance of Rangers' pitching over the years, one would consider this truth in advertising.

In any case, after this gaffe was noted on the opening day broadcast by the play by play announcers, the Rangers quickly and quietly moved the sign. 'The Dump' is now located by the first base line foul pole. I haven't heard anything else said about it, just noticed the move as I watch today's game telecast.

I hope someone got pictures.

Angels Pitcher Killed by Drunk Driver

Nick Adenhart, number three starter for the LA Angels, was killed early Thursday morning by a drunk driver. He had just pitched in his first game of the season. The 'allegedly' drunk driver has a history of drunk driving convictions, had a suspended license, and ran from the scene of the accident. Police apprehended him.

Adenhart died shortly after undergoing emergency surgery. Two others in the car were killed instantly, and a fourth person is in critical condition.

It's a terrible way for MLB to start the season. It is horrible blow to his family and his teammates.

Andrew Gallo, the drunk, should have been in jail. Now, he will go to jail for three counts of murder, unless the people who allowed him to still be on the street in the first place plea bargain down the charges.

Congressional Democrats Suck Up To Castro

Members of the Congressional Black Caucus (all Democrat) returned today from meeting with Fidel Castro. Their messages to America on the meetings are predictable:

The fifty-year embargo just hasn’t worked ... it was quite a moment to behold.” - CBC Chairwoman Barbara Lee (D-CA)

It was almost like listening to an old friend.” - Rep. Bobby Rush (D-IL)

"He looked right into my eyes and he said, 'How can we help? How can we help President Obama?'" - Rep. Laura Richardson (D-CA)

There is nothing I can add, these jackasses said it all themselves.

F***ing Traitors .....

Sen. Ted Stevens, Update

A Federal judge today tossed out the conviction of Senator Ted Stevens, the Alaska Republican who was convicted last fall of 7 counts of lying on financial disclosure statements. The dismissal came at the request of Eric Holder, US Attorney General.

"In nearly 25 years on the bench, I've never seen anything approaching the mishandling and misconduct that I've seen in this case." - U.S. District Judge Emmet Sullivan

Sullivan appointed a special prosecutor to investigate the Justice Department lawyers who handled the prosecution, which may lead to criminal charges, fines, and jail time. The persons to be investigated include the top two officials in the Department's Public Corruption Unit.

Despite calls from Gov. Pailin and others in the State of Alaska, there is almost no chance of the Democrat who won Stevens' seat after his conviction last fall will step down and allow a special election to be held to fill the Senate seat. Although that would be the right thing to do, does anyone actually believe the Democrats would give up that seat?

Texas Rangers and Fans Give Big Welcome to President Bush

President Bush threw out the first pitch at the Texas Rangers' home opener this afternoon.

TV imagery captured a standing ovation from the crowd and players, with not a single boo or protester to be seen. Josh Hamilton caught his pitch, which by the way did go over the plate. Josh proudly displayed the signed ball for reporters after the game.

For those who don't know, President Bush was the Rangers' managing general partner from 1989 to 1994, a period that saw him frequently sitting behind the first base dugout during games. He then went on to two terms as Texas Governor, then to the White House.

This was the third time a president has thrown out the first pitch on Ranger's opening day: Gerald Ford in 1976, George H.W. Bush in 1991, and now George W.

A 100x300ft American flag was displayed across the outfield by members of the 4thID out of Ft. Hood.

The Rangers won, by the way, 9-1 over the Cleveland Indians. Hopefully MLB will call the season right now - it's the only chance the Rangers have of producing a winning season!

US Army NHRA Race Team Kicks Ass

The US Army sponsors a NHRA Top fuel dragster team. Driven by Tony Schumacher, it is owned by Don Schumacher Racing (his father). Tony and his team have been the dominant force in NHRA racing for several years now, setting innumerable records and winning championships. He is the defending NHRA champ from 2008.

A large part of the team's success was with Alan Johnson, the crew chief, and the crew members. They made up what was perhaps the strongest drag race team in history. They were so dominant and hated by their peers that they were referred to as DSR (Dark Side Racing), rather than Don Schumacher Racing.

At the end of the 2008 season, a new owner came to NHRA. Sheikh Khalid Bin Hamad Al Thani, a member of the ruling family of Qatar, came storming into the sport, establishing Top Fuel and Funny Car teams with unlimited financial resources. The sheikh made Alan Johnson an offer he could not refuse to run his two teams. Johnson took all of his Army team with him - no telling how much cash it took.

So, we have Tony, the defending champ, with a car and no team. Picking up the pieces, DSR hired a new crew chief and crew, and in less than two months, were back at the races for the 2009 season.

All the pundits in the racing world had predicted that Schumacher would fall on his face, since Johnson had been seen as the reason for the success of the team. Well ... not quite ....

Tony and the US Army dragster won the NHRA event in Las Vegas today. Coupled with their win two weeks ago in Houston, he has now won 2 of the first 5 events. Will Tony be as dominant this year as in the past - I don't know. But it is good to know that American pride, driven by US Army principals and sponsorship, are whupping up on the best that foreign dollars can buy.

Free Reign is HEAVY METAL

Free Reign is a Heavy Metal band consisting of Dallas Cowboy linemen Leonard Davis (bass) Cory Proctor (drums), Marc Columbo (lead guitar and vocals), along with friend Justin Chapman. They had their first public performance last night at the Grenada Theater in Dallas, a 6 song set. This video is pretty crappy, but you can hear them.

I'm not a huge Heavy Metal fan, but I'm pretty sure that these guys aren't going to displace Metallica on top of the charts any time soon.

In any case, this truly is Heavy Metal - the four of them combined weigh more than 1200 pounds. I just can't believe that if Dallas Cowboys are involved, that they've not howling out Gangsta Rap.

Obamas Trip All Over Themselves

The Obama's visit to London for the G20 meeting has been an absolute disaster on matters of protocol. The incompetence shown by the first couple and their protocol officers is amazing, and an embarrassment to our country.

Michele put her arm around the Queen of England and hugged her. That is an absolute no-no. No one ever touches the Queen for any reason.

Obama's gift to the Queen was an iPod, loaded with show tunes and excerpts from Obama campaign speeches. Besides the fact that she's already received one as a gift, how arrogant is that? He believes the Queen actually wants to hear his bullshit speeches?

Obama bowed to the King of Saudi Arabia, another big time no-no. No one bows to a King except his subjects. I am sure he meant it as a sign of respect, but it will come across as a sign of subservience in the Arab world. I would imagine Al Jazeera is playing the tape of this and laughing their asses off. The Arab world has certainly got the US President they were hoping for!

All administrations have protocol officers, professionals whose job it is to make certain that our officials do not commit gaffes like these. If those officers did their job, and the Obamas ignored them, then shame on the Obamas. If the officers did not do their jobs, and the Obamas did these stupid things out of ignorance, they should throw the officers out of the plane over the Atlantic on the trip back. In either case, it shows how ignorant and self absorbed this administration is.

Clinton Declares War on Terror Over

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton declared the War on Terror is over, while speaking with reporters at The Hague.

"The (Obama) administration has stopped using the phrase and I think that speaks for itself. Obviously." - Hillary Clinton, Mar.31 2009

Well, isn't that special. Harry Reid declared the war in Iraq lost on the Senate floor last year. Now Clinton declares the War on Terror over. Since we haven't won the war yet, I guess she means that we give up. I guess that Obama's idea of gaining international friends begins with giving up and retreating.

Let's see, wasn't it the Clinton administration that turned the other cheek to terrorism in the 1990s, a policy that alowed 9/11 to happen? The Democrats were pissed off that 9/11 happened on George Bush's watch, this is the first step in making sure the next 9/11 does happen while Obama is in office.

Deadliest Catch back for Season 5

Discovery Channel's Deadliest Catch is back for its fifth season, beginning April 14. Now I don't care for crab, and would get very ill just at the sight of a crab fishing boat, but I've been hooked on this series since back before it was a series (just an hour long documentary). I am really looking forward to seeing how the Harris clan is doing, how the Hanson's are, and what kind of hellish weather they're going to have to fight through for this year's crab seasons.

Obama Breaks No Tax Promise, Round One

Many times during his campaign, Obama the Immaculate stated that his new tax plans would not raise taxes for anyone earning under $250,000.

"I can make a firm pledge. Under my plan, no family making less than $250,000 a year will see any form of tax increase. Not your income tax, not your payroll tax, not your capital gains taxes, not any of your taxes." - Obama, Sep. 12 2008

"You will not see any of your taxes increase one single dime." - Obama line, frequently stated during campaign

As of April 1, the federal tax on a pack of cigarettes rises .62 cents, to $1.01 per pack.

Smoking is prevalent in people of lower incomes. It is a sad fact that the people who can afford to smoke the least, are the ones who generally do it the most. So, the first people to feel the brunt of Obama's tax wrath are the very people he promised repeatedly he wouldn't attack.

I told you so seems to be so inadequate .....

Sen. Ted Stevens Conviction to be Tossed due to Prosecutorial Misconduct

Alaska's Republican Senator Ted Stevens, the longest serving Republican in the Senate, was convicted of 7 counts of lying on financial disclosure statements last fall, a week before the general election. Due to the conviction, he lost his bid for an eighth term.

The Justice Department is now seeking to throw out the convictions, with Attorney General Eric Holder citing gross misconduct by the prosecutors in the case.

"After careful review, I have concluded that certain information should have been provided to the defense for use at trial," - Eric Holder, Attorney General

"... justified by the extraordinary evidence of government corruption in the prosecution of Sen. Stevens... a sad story and a warning to everyone. Any citizen can be convicted if prosecutors are hell-bent on ignoring the Constitution and willing to present false evidence." - Brendan Sullivan and Robert Cary, Stevens' attorneys

Apparently, the prosecutors and FBI witnesses lied during the trial, and hid evidence from the defense.

I don't have much use for Eric Holder. However, he is doing the right thing here. Unfortunately, it is too late for the people of Alaska and the US Congress - the election was irrevocably tainted by the timing of the prosecution, and the apparently illegal actions of the office of the prosecutor. Democrats had targeted Sen. Stevens' seat as one they wanted badly in this past election, and they got it. I guess the ends justify the means, any means, for the Democrat Party.
